The Dragon: Genesis

At the peak of Rome’s might a dragon is born among eagles, an heir to a line both blessed and cursed by the Gods for ages.

It is the year A.D. 142 and Avus Metellus Anguis, a young man from humble beginnings in the Subura of Rome, is fighting at the edge of the Empire. Courageous, forthright, and strong, he is a born leader who finds success and respect in the army.

His life is suddenly changed, however, when he receives a mysterious inheritance that alters his perspective of himself and the world around him. When tragedy strikes while he is on campaign in the wilds of Caledonia, he is forced to return to Rome to face some terrible truths.

Avus feels quite alone in the world, that is, until the Gods set a new path before him and he realizes that he is a part of something much bigger, and more ancient, than he could possibly have imagined. As time passes, Avus comes to understand his purpose in life, and the important role he has to play in the Empire, and in the lives of those around him.

After all the successes and failures of his life, can Avus find the strength and courage to complete the final task the Gods have set for him? Will he hold his head high in the twilight of his life?

Only the Gods and Avus himself know.

The Dragon: Genesis is a story of love, loss, and the paths the Gods put before us.

Step into the world of the Roman Empire and discover how dragons came to be among eagles.

The Dragon: Genesis is a full-length prequel novel in Adam Alexander Haviaras’ ground-breaking Eagles and Dragons historical fantasy series. If you like books by Douglas Jackson, Marion Zimmer Bradley, David Gemmell, and Bernard Cornwell, or movies like Gladiator and Pompeii, then you will love this bestselling historical fantasy series that will throw you head-first into the mystery, passion, and brutality of the Roman Empire.

  1. The Dragon: Genesis: What a wonderful book. Again, Adam has hit the mark spot on!!! I live for his new books!!! If you want a good understanding of the people who lived in Roman times, Adam is the source for entertaining and education reading. I highly recommend all his books!!!!!

  2. I have all your books on file and thoroughly enjoyed the character and honour of Avus.
Amongst the so called scum of the Subura who joined the Legions there have had to be some of them with a quality of humanity who fought when ordered or attacked but who had a measure of compassion.
I have recently formed Legio XVIII Gallica here in Victoria Australia due to my personal interest in the Varus/Arminius massacre in 9AD. I have recommended your books to new members.
Please keep on researching and writing and enlightening your readers.

    • Cheers, John! We’re so glad you enjoyed The Dragon: Genesis, and all the other books. Avus certainly is a great character, a man of honour. Thank you for recommending the books to the members of Legio XVIII Gallica too! Re-enactment plays an important part in understanding the past, so we wish you all well. Thank you again for the kind words, John. Strength and Honour! 😉
